Deborah McKenzie Obituary

Deborah Thompson McKenize, age 67, of Pinehurst, passed away on Sunday, March 24, 2024, at Pinehurst Health & Rehab.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, March 27, 2024 at 2:00pm at Solid Rock Community Church, Sanford, N.C. with Pastor Brad Marona officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church from 1 until 2. A reception will follow in the church fellowship hall.

Deborah was born in Pinehurst, North Carolina on April 25, 1956 to the late Burleigh Bryant and Olive Campbell Thompson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jim McKenzie, brother, Gary Thompson.

She proudly served her country in the U.S. Air Force for 4 years.

“Grammie” as she was well known to many had a fun, loving, and witty personality.  She loved to read and share corny jokes with her grandchildren, who she prized as the joys of her life and who she was immensely proud. She was a very active member of Solid Rock Community Church for the last 8 years and loved her church family dearly, all the kids at church knew “Grammie” always kept a pocketbook full of chewing gum. Grammie also loved her grand-dog, Jack, as much as he loved her and her special treats.  Although she came from a small family, her daughter-in-laws family made up for that in numbers and in love. Grammie became a live-in caretaker for Jessica’s Maw-Maw and her family was a vital part of Grammies life, especially her three bonus grandkids: Fiona, Scout and Birdie. She loved to laugh, she loved to be silly, and she especially loved visiting every Dollar General she possibly could within driving distance.  She was a loving mother, sister, grammie and friend and will be greatly missed.

She leaves behind her son, Shawn Buring and wife Jessica of Lakeview; grandchildren, Olivia, Nolan, Harper; brother, Jackie Thompson of Raeford.
